Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) – Where We Are & Where We’re Headed
February 12 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join Dr. Billy Kihei (KSU) for an introduction to V2X and a discussion on the state of DSRC.
Vehicle-2-Everything (V2X) technology can make roads safer by allowing vehicles to communicate with each other. The goal of V2X is to reduce accidents where there is not a line-of-sight of other vehicles or road-users, such as at intersections, in harsh driving conditions, and around curves. The technology can reduce up to 94% of all unimpaired accidents in the US, resulting in saving 33,500+ lives a year. As well as provide extensive benefits for the environment and economic productivity. However, V2X relies on support from regulatory bodies to secure its effectiveness. In this talk, a tutorial on the technology is provided (DSRC, C-V2X), and the current status of V2X activity in the United States. A discussion on the future V2X will be shared along with some perspectives from the open-source community.
Billy Kihei, Ph.D. is an active wireless researcher and expert in signal processing. He received his B.S. ECE 2009, M.S. ECE 2010, and PhD ECE 2017. In his doctorate work he discovered new characteristics about the Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) wireless channel and the V2V physical layer. He is a member of the IEEE, NSF Awardee, internationally invited speaker, and published author in prestigious wireless communication and industry technical venues.
